A true artist’s craft surpasses a mere casual pastime or hobby. For many artists, their art is a place to visit in times of difficulty, allowing them relief from their struggles. For young artist, Francesca Acevedo, drawing has always been her escape. Being sheltered from her environment for most of her childhood in Providence, Rhode Island, Francesca began drawing, bringing her own world to life through her pen and paper. Also spending much time as a child watching cartoons and playing video games, Francesca’s works were inspired by the same characters that flooded her screen, giving her works a signature look. As she grew, her work evolved alongside with her as she began to draw inspiration from different places and people. Much of her work today being inspired by places, objects and people she comes across in her daily life, Francesca also tends to incorporate elements of satire and humor in the portrayals of her subjects, expressing to me that, “I like poking fun at everyday things and turning them into funny little drawings that people can relate to,”. Though her works are often abstract and imaginative, each drawing is intended to hold a message which speaks to everyday life.

Though the exact career path Francesca desires to take is still uncertain, her main hope is for her work to be displayed in as many capacities possible.

From galleries, T Shirts, to television, Francheska intends for her work to be seen by the world. Still holding fast to the foundation that inspired her as a child, Francesca has aspirations of creating her own cartoons and toys. Such ambitions motivate Francesca to keep creating as she continues to produce work locally. Last year, one of her bigger projects was a mini series of floating skulls she carefully developed. This year, Francesca has been steadily creating a mini series of acrylic teddy bear paintings, being inspired by the toy brands, Care Bears and Cabbage Pack Kids. Her greatest moments of pride come at the end of each of her projects, each piece giving her rewarding her with a newfound sense of accomplishment sweeter than the last. With a relentless dedication and an undying imagination, the possibilities for Francesca are endless. Lighthearted yet profound, Francesca’s art stands out, demanding attention and admiration.
